GE Life Sciences

IDEA 2014 Finalist

The Cytell Imaging System was a new benchtop instrument to aid in Life Science research. GE Healthcare’s Life Science business had a very crude layout of potential components. GE Global Design (Ryan Ramos Lead ID) lead the industrial design efforts to evaluate the benchtop ergonomics and apply a visual identity to the new instrument.

Analyzing interface

The exterior design balanced a sheet metal wrap with a gloss black top and front surface. Interface details were shown on the very front surface with a single button to access the cassette stage and an LED light pipe for instrument information.

Guided Touchpoints

Details were added throughout the system to guide the user during use. The bright GE brand color of magenta was used to correctly orient the cassette for analyzing.
